DIGITAL RIGHTS AND INCLUSION
Digital Rights And Inclusion
In early 2024, Datareportal revealed that only 13.3 million Ugandans, representing approximately 27% of the population, were utilizing the internet. Alarmingly, just 2.6 million individuals, or about 5.3%, were active social media users, despite the existence of 33.34 million active cellular mobile connections. This disparity highlights a critical gap in digital access and engagement, which is increasingly vital for economic empowerment in today’s digital age.
iFancy is at the forefront of addressing this challenge by promoting digital inclusion across Uganda. Our mission is to create an equitable digital landscape that empowers all Ugandans, particularly those in rural, refugee settlements, and underserved urban communities. Through a series of targeted initiatives, we aim to provide affordable, high-speed internet access and essential digital skills training, focusing on rural youth and women.
The importance of digital platforms cannot be overstated; they are instrumental in facilitating economic rights and opportunities. By equipping the youth and women with the necessary tools and knowledge to navigate the digital economy, we enable them to enhance their employability and expand their market reach. This is even more crucial for entrepreneurs and small business owners who can leverage online platforms to showcase and sell their products effectively.
Moreover, our efforts to enhance computer literacy among students are designed to bridge the educational divide, ensuring that the next generation is well-prepared for a technology-driven future. By fostering digital inclusion, iFancy is laying the foundation for a more inclusive economy where every Ugandan can thrive in the digital era, thereby reinforcing the imperative of universal access to digital resources
